Happy B-day S=S+S ^.^

One year since I published the first public version! :D
Time flies!
I just managed to publish 01.7.5 which has very little over last version -which was 3 days ago-.
I improved usability -and code- on the main Search Engines list, on the Option's page. Toy with it and you'll notice.

I'm just taking a look at the stats, and they are really cool, the way the extension is being used... I'm really glad it is useful to other people. A really nice feelling.

We'll I'm too tired, way past my bed time. I'll post some 1 year stats soon.

Again, thanks for using it!

Cheers :)

  2. It would be cool if google sync'd the settings across my other computer. Any way to do that? It auto-synced the extension, just not my customizations.

Also, I'd like to share my custom searches with others and maybe get some from others as well. Thanks

  3. Hey Phillip, thanks for the feedback... and the donation! You're awesom.
I'm happy you're finding the extension useful.

The sync issue is on my mind since day one. I was hoping Chrome eventually would take care of synchronizing extension's configuration but it's still not happening.
I really want to avoid using a third party cloud solution, which is one of the simplest way to solve it...

I'll get back to it and see if I can come up with something new.

In the meantime, you can use de Import/Export section on the extension's Option page... export the configuration from your computer A, and then go to the same pannel on computer B and import it... the configuration is plain text, you can send it over by mail, or paste it in a .txt file...

This might also be used to share links (full configuration, actually) with other users... it's kind of low-tech but it works...

I'm interested in hearing more about your thoughts on sharing links with others... If you want to make any of your custom searches public, you can send them to me and I can add them to the featured list... how does that sound?

    Thanks again!

  4. Just adopted your extension - very well done! After a few days use I'll donate... Just wondered why the built in Google Images URL pointed to the site in Uruguay? With your help instructions I was easily able to convert it to the US URL but you may want to consider offering both Spanish and English versions (I know its for images, but there was a bit of lag as my browser translated the left menus and related searches across the top)

  5. Hello Momelisse,
Thanks for the feedback, and you're right about the Google Images featured link. Apologies... didn't realize that.
I'll update the featured search engines list as soon as I can get to the server where they're hosted.
    Thanks for noting it!
I'm glad you could work it out, though :)
    Thanks again!

  6. Hello, first I want to say I'm extremely pleased with your extension. Got 15 Google Translate links set up, translating 15 languages for curious me :).

I've come across a bug in v0.1.7.5, though! The last couple of days it will mix up links after I've used Chrome for a couple of hours. For example, when I click on the link to Google Maps, it'll direct my search to IMDb.com, which happens to be on the next line in the context menu. As far as I can tell, this bug doesn't seem to occur with all links but if it does, it directs me to the next link. Can test that if you want. Restarting Chrome fixes it temporarily. Got 36 links set up in total and use an up-to-date Chrome and Win7 64bit.

Are you aware of this strange bug?

    1. Hello Harmen,
It took a loooooong while, but I just uploaded a version that supposedly fix this weird sort order issue... I apologize for the delay!
I hope you keep using the extension and are able to confirm it no longer breaks :)
      Thanks!!

  7. Hello Harmen,
Thanks for the feedback. That's a lot of translation links! :)
About the bug, I tought it was my dev version that was buggy. It happened to me two or three times, but could not reproduce afterwards. I'll try and debug it now that I know it's not just me.
In the meantime, you don't need to restart the browser. I fixed this going to the extension's Options Page, and changing any of the settings. For example, you can re-sort one of the links and get it back to its original place afterwards. In my case, this solved this issue.
I hope I can find what it is and solve it soon. Apologies for the inconvenience.

  8. Thanks for your answer, Diego. Great customer support!

I'll try the 'reset' you propose and wait patiently for a permanent fix. I have to add that the problem in my experience only arises after many hours (maybe 6-8?) of using Chrome, so while it's irritating, it's not too inconvenient.

One last question: I'm sure you're aware that websites like Metacritic use +'s instead of %20's in multiple word searches. That makes them unfit for both Chrome's built-in 'Tab' searche engine and your extension. Is there any solution for that?

    Greetings from the Netherlands.

  9. Hi Harmen, I hope I can fix this soon, I already have a few ideas. And your comment about the 6-8 hours of Chrome running gave a few clues.

About the Metacritic issue. I should be able to allow you to specify if you want the spaces replaced by %20 or + for each search link you add... Thanks for the idea! :D
I'll try and include that on the next release.

I have a request, if it's not much of a bother: would you be willing to email me your extension's configuration? There's a few things I'd like to check, and scincerely, I'm curious to check how does it work with so many links (I only use 4 or 5 myself :)...
You only have to go the options page, into the Import/export Option and copy the text on the textarea shown there.

of course, only if this does not bother you... mi mail is diego[dot]presno[at]gmail[dot]com

    Thanks!!

  10. Done. Good luck!

PS: You're a god among extension coders!

  11. The 'search everywhere' option is great, was looking for it but suprisingly ther aren't extensions that work that way (opening multiple search engines at once).

    So thanks for that option!

My suggestion is to somehow be able to create groups of search engines: for example, sometimes you want to look for a book, so you'd open a set of book-searching sites; othertimes it would be a movie, and so on.

    But thanks anyway!

  12. Hey asier,
Thanks for the feedback! Your suggestion about groups is very interesting. The most challenging issue there is how to display the "search books" together with your regular links... I think i might have a reasonable approach, though.
It's going to my ToDo list, which is huge and unattended as of late... But I'll get back to it eventually :)
    Thanks!

  14. I would like to suggest including Google Maps in your list of Featured Search Engines. So far I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to add it myself.

Thanks for the wonderful addition to Chrome.

  15. Hey earthling,
    Try this one: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=%s
If it does the trick, please do let me know and I'll add it to the featured search engines list.
    Thanks for using the extension!
    Cheers,
    Diego
